How days between dates are counted

The calculator counts calendar days from the start date to the end date. By default the start day is counted and the end day is not, like counting nights in a hotel. Tick “Include the end date” to count both, as for a holiday or a contract that ends at the close of the last day.

Worked example: from 1 March 2026 to 1 June 2026 is 92 days (31 in March, 30 in April and 31 in May), which is 13 weeks and 1 day. With a Saturday–Sunday weekend, 65 of them are working days.

Working days leave out the weekend days you choose. The weekend is set from your language when you open the page, Friday and Saturday in Arabic for example, and you can change it with one tap. Public holidays differ by country and city, so they are not removed.

Adding months and years, and month ends

Years and months are added first, then weeks and days. If the same day number doesn’t exist in the result month, the date moves to that month’s last day.

  • 31 January 2026 plus 1 month is 28 February 2026, and 31 January 2028 plus 1 month is 29 February 2028, because 2028 is a leap year.
  • 29 February 2024 plus 1 year is 28 February 2025.
  • Adding 1 month and then subtracting 1 month doesn’t always bring you back: 31 January → 28 February → 28 January.

Leap years have 366 days. A year is a leap year when it divides by 4, except century years, which must divide by 400. 2000 was a leap year, and 2100 will not be.

Tips

  • For a deadline “in 30 days”, use Add with 30 days. For “30 working days”, count the working days between dates instead and adjust the end date until it shows 30.
  • The “In years, months and days” line counts calendar months the same way as the age calculator.
  • Your dates, weekend days and amounts are remembered in this browser.

FAQ

How many days are there between two dates?

Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator counts every calendar day between them, leap days included, and shows the total in days, weeks, and years, months and days.

Does the count include the start and end dates?

The start date is counted and the end date is not, unless you tick “Include the end date”, which adds one day.

How are working days calculated?

The calculator counts the days in the period and leaves out the weekend days you choose. Public holidays are not removed, because they differ by country.

Can I change which days are the weekend?

Yes. Tap any day of the week to mark it as a weekend day or a working day. The default follows your language, for example Saturday and Sunday in English and Friday and Saturday in Arabic.

What is 31 January plus one month?

28 February, or 29 February in a leap year. When the day doesn’t exist in the result month, the date moves to that month’s last day.

How do I find a date 90 days from today?

In “Add to or subtract from a date”, keep today’s date, choose Add and enter 90 in Days. The result shows the date and its day of the week.
