How the age is calculated
The calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days that are left. A year is complete on each birthday, and a month is complete on the same day number in the next month.
Worked example: someone born on 14 August 1995 is, on 3 March 2026, 30 years, 6 months and 17 days old. Their 30th birthday was 14 August 2025, six more months bring us to 14 February 2026, and from there to 3 March is 17 days (February 2026 has 28 days).
The totals count the same span in other units: every calendar day between the two dates, divided into weeks, multiplied by 24 for hours, or counted as whole months plus the remaining days.
Leap years, 29 February and month lengths
Months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, so “one month” is not a fixed number of days. That is why the calculator counts calendar months rather than dividing by 30.
- A year is a leap year when it divides by 4, except century years, which must divide by 400. So 2000 and 2024 were leap years, and 1900 and 2100 are not.
- If you were born on 29 February, your birthday in a common year is shown on 28 February. Some countries treat 1 March as the legal date instead, so check local rules for official matters.
- When a month is shorter than your birth day (born on the 31st, for example), the month counts as complete on that month’s last day.
Tips
- Change “Age on this date” to see how old someone was on a past day, or will be on a future one, such as a school start date or a retirement date.
- The Hijri date of birth uses the Umm al-Qura calendar. Your local Hijri calendar may differ by a day when months start on a moon sighting.
- Use “Copy result” to paste the full age into a form or a message.
FAQ
How do I calculate my exact age?
Count the whole years since your last birthday, then the whole months since the last month-day matching your birth day, then the days left over. This calculator does it for you as soon as you enter your date of birth.
How many days old am I?
Enter your date of birth and look at “Days” under the totals. It counts every calendar day from your birth date up to today, leap days included.
When does someone born on 29 February have a birthday?
In leap years on 29 February. In other years this calculator uses 28 February. Some countries use 1 March for legal age, so for official purposes follow your local rule.
Can I find my age on a specific date?
Yes. Change “Age on this date” to any day after your birth, past or future, and the age updates instantly.
Why is my age in Hijri years higher?
A Hijri year follows the moon and lasts about 354 or 355 days, around 11 days shorter than a solar year. Over a lifetime the Hijri count runs ahead by about one year for every 33 solar years.

No. The calculation runs in your browser, and your entries are saved only in this browser so they are there next time.
