What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a simple way to focus: work on one task for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. After four sessions, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. Short, timed sessions make it easier to start and harder to get distracted.

How to use this timer

  1. Pick one task you want to work on.
  2. Press Start, or the space bar, and work until the timer ends.
  3. Take the break the timer starts for you.
  4. Repeat. After every fourth session the timer gives you a long break.

You can change the length of each session and break in the settings. Your settings and today's sessions are saved in this browser only.

An aesthetic study timer with rain sounds

Press Focus mode and the timer fills the screen over a calm background: a rainy window, a forest, a sunset, a night sky or plain paper. Nothing else is on the screen, so the only thing left to do is the task in front of you.

Add a soft sound to block out the noise around you: rain, brown noise, white noise or a gentle wind. The sounds are made live in your browser, so there is nothing to download, and they can pause by themselves when you pause the timer.

A to-do list for each study session

Write down what you want to finish before you start. The first open task is shown under the timer in focus mode, so you always know what this session is for. Tick tasks off as you go, and clear them when you are done.

The list is saved in this browser only: nobody else can see it, and nothing is sent to our servers.

FAQ

Does the timer keep running in another tab?

Yes. The time left is shown in the tab's title, and you can turn on a sound and a notification for the end of each session.

Can I change the 25-minute length?

Yes. Set any length for focus sessions, short breaks and long breaks, and how many sessions come before a long break.

Is there a Pomodoro widget for my home screen?

Yes. Wadiget has a Pomodoro widget: start, pause and stop a focus session from the home screen, with a notification when a session or a break ends.

Can I study with rain sounds or brown noise?

Yes. Pick Rain, Brown noise, White noise or Soft wind under Ambient sound, and set the volume. The sound starts when you choose it and can pause together with the timer.

How do I make the timer full screen?

Press Focus mode or the F key. The timer fills the screen over the background you picked; press Esc or F again to leave. On phones that do not allow full screen, the timer fills the page instead.

Is my to-do list saved?

Yes, in this browser only. Your tasks are still there when you come back, and they are never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data removes them.
