How to add a prayer times widget with Azan on Android

A prayer times widget shows the next prayer the moment you look at your phone, without opening an app. This guide shows how to add one to your Android home screen with Wadiget, get the right times for your city and turn on the Azan.

What a good prayer times widget shows

  • All five prayers, from Fajr to Isha, for your city.
  • The next prayer and the time left until it.
  • Times that keep showing without an internet connection.
  • A design that matches the rest of your home screen.

Wadiget has prayer times widgets in Arabic and English. Many show the weekday in hand-drawn Thuluth calligraphy, the Hijri date or a clock beside the next prayer.

Step 1: Install Wadiget

Wadiget is free on Google Play for phones and tablets with Android 10 or later.

Step 2: Set your city

Prayer times depend on where you are. Allow location so Wadiget can find your city, or choose your city by hand if you prefer not to share your location. Location is used for prayer times and weather.

Step 3: Choose the calculation method

Countries calculate Fajr and Isha in different ways. Wadiget offers 12 calculation methods: pick the one your country or your mosque follows, for example the Egyptian General Authority of Survey in Egypt or Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia.

You can also choose Standard or Hanafi for the Asr time, and move any prayer by a few minutes if your local mosque differs slightly.

Step 4: Pick a design and add it

  1. Open Wadiget and choose a prayer times widget.
  2. Change what you like: glass, solid or gradient, the colours, the font, Arabic or Latin digits and the size.
  3. Add it to your home screen and place it where you want it.

Step 5: Turn on the Azan and reminders

Wadiget can play the Azan at each prayer time, in five voices, and remind you before the prayer.

So the Azan and the widget stay on time, allow Wadiget to run in the background. If your phone stops it to save battery, follow these steps.

More Islamic widgets

Next to prayer times you can add a tasbih counter, the Hijri date, Quran verses and a Ramadan countdown. See Islamic widgets for Android.

Questions

Do prayer times work without internet?

Yes. Once your city is set, the prayer times keep showing without a connection.

Why are my prayer times a few minutes off?

Usually because a different calculation method is selected. Choose the method your country follows. If your mosque still differs, move that prayer by a few minutes in the settings.

Does it work on Samsung and Xiaomi phones?

Yes, on any phone or tablet with Android 10 or later. On some phones you need to allow background activity so the widget and the Azan stay on time.
